Adult Instructor (GED/HSE)

POSITION SUMMARY:   Team teaches reading, spelling, writing and mathematics to adult learners at varied academic levels. Must be able to integrate the use of technology into the lessons, as well as utilize a wide range of curriculum resources. Position is in person and virtual (blended learning environment).

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Designs and adapts the course of Adult Basic and Literacy Education (ABLE) to meet the needs of adult students, including adults with characteristics of learning disabilities
    • Effectively integrate Common Core State Standards, student goals and objectives into lesson plans that are learner centered and reflect individual accommodations through differentiated instruction
      • Must be able to develop written lesson plans using curricula that incorporates authentic real-life context that is responsive to the needs, goals, and interests of adult learners in their roles as employees, family members, community and lifelong learners.
      • Adapts instructional strategies and classroom management to foster the program’s goals and learning objectives in a multi-level and multi-subject classroom using a variety of delivery methods (individual, pair-work, small group, whole group, tutorial and computer/technology-aided)
      • Works with students to create goal-setting and other life skills
      • Participates in all mandatory trainings, meetings, and workshops offered by state and federal funding sources
  • Performs other duties as assigned
  • Reports to the Director of Curriculum & Instruction

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS DESIRED

  • Required Education/Experience:
    • Bachelor’s degree in education or related field;
    • An Oklahoma Teaching Certificate;
    • At least two years of experience teaching high school students or adult learners in a non-traditional educational setting
    • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Desired Skills/Personality Traits:
    • Excellent oral and written communications skills;
    • Organized, self-directed with a comprehensive knowledge of educational principals;
    • Ability to set the tone/classroom environment;
    • Strong ability to mentor, inspire an motivate people. 

Position Details:

  • Part-time position (30 hrs/week), 8a to 3p
