OIC Unveils New Language & Citizenship Classes

Opportunities Industrialization Center of Oklahoma County Inc. (OIC) is announcing three new classes in partnership with the Oklahoma Department of Libraries and Oklahoma City University:  Conversational English & Introduction to Citizenship and Coffee Chat Tuesdays. All classes are held at the OIC, 3033 North Walnut Street Building East in Oklahoma City, just north of the State Capitol. 

                                                                                                                                                        Classes are for all community members who speak any native language and are at any level of English proficiency.

OIC’s educational programming continues to grow to meet the needs of our community in which we serve. Conversational English classes meet on Mondays from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 and Wednesdays from 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m.

The 5-week course begins in June, but participants are welcome to drop in at any time and join in on the conversation. Classes will simulate real-life experiences to learn and develop English skills needed in everyday life.

Becoming a US Citizen is a great step. Every Wednesday throughout the summer, Introduction to Citizenship classes are hosted at OIC from 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. The weekly citizenship component is conducted in partnership with Oklahoma City University. The 5-week Citizenship classes help learners prepare for the naturalization test and interview.

Executive Director, DesJean Jones, comments, “At OIC, we believe immigrants are valuable members of our society. We are delighted with the new partnerships and have created a safe place for all members to feel comfortable.”

 

Coffee Chat Tuesdays is an informal, cafe setting at the OIC every Tuesdays from 10:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. The coffee chat is a drop in, come-and-go, with no registration required. Learners can enjoy a hot beverage and explore casual conversations to practice their English in a social environment. Readings and vocabulary will be stimulated organically through engaging conversation.
